UPDATE AS OF 3/26/2021: I ONLY HAVE UNTIL APRIL 25th TO RAISE THE FUNDS OR THEY WILL GIVE MY DOG AWAY !!! CHECK OUT MY INSTAGRAM FOR DETAILS, SHIRTS AND STICKERS !!!
Hello everyone, my name is Maysun Piquette and Im from Oxnard, California.
When I was 13, on December 22, 2017, I was diagnosed with a Pilocytic Astrcytoma brain stem brain tumor. After research and meeting with doctors at CHLA we determined I needed surgery to try and remove it. On January 17, 2018 I had a craniotomy and laminectomy decompression operation. Unfortunately, my surgery was unsuccessful.
Shortly after, we decided to go with plan B which was chemotherapy. I got a port placed in my upper right chest and began a low dose of chemo on March 7, 2018. I went on a "watch and wait trial" but, after 15 months of my treatment my tumor had not shrunk and was officially deemed inactive so we decided it was safe to take me off of chemo sometime in May of 2018.
I still have MRIs every six months to insure all is well. Last year, after years of struggling with symptoms, I was officially diagnosed with a genetic connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and a condition that effects my nervous system, which controls everything that should be automatic in my body called POTS. I struggle with joint pain and weakness, dizzy spells, migraines, fuzzy vision, ringing in my ears and more. I also suffer from a severe anxiety disorder due partially from all the medical challenges I've faced. Despite it all I love being outdoors, gardening, meditating, yoga, art, being an aunt to my three year old niece and spending quality time with my loved ones. My goal right now is to get a service dog that can perform tasks like item retrieval and leg compression on days that it is hard for me to get out of bed due to my POTS and distraction from panic attacks to better my quality of life and help on day to day activities such as bending and shortening trips up and down the stairs. Paying for a service dog can get a little pricey for just one family so, I am asking for donations. Anything and everything is greatly and hugely appreciated!
