Hi everyone đź‘‹
Please meet 4 year old Marley Logan Bickel. Marley was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia on NYE 2020 and is currently undergoing treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. Typically a spirited, mischievous, ball of energy we began to notice changes in him in mid-late December. His year-round, golden tan slowly began turning into a muted, white yellow tone while his once lively, animated personality became one of reclusiveness and lethargy. Believing it was anemia, we took him in on the morning of NYE for testing at his Pediatrician’s office. By noon we were in the hospital ER, then by 2:00PM he was receiving the first of many blood transfusions he'd be getting over the next 48hrs. At 4:30PM, our worst fears were confirmed in just 4 small words...“ Your son has cancer”. In the blink of an eye, our boy’s life was completely flipped upside down.
Our sweet, fiery little man is the youngest of the Bickel clan and the family’s baby. His older sister Carrie is his best friend and protector, while older brother Kayden is his real life superhero. And while his parents are his favorite people in the world, at least we like to think so, we are fairly certain his dog Chance is his #1 favorite soul ever! Marley’s favorite things to do are building Legos, and dressing up as Mario Bros or Sonic with his sister then zooming around all day pretending to fight off bad guys with his super strength and speed! The nurses have actually been amazed at how humorous Marley has been during his hospital stay, but of course that’s no surprise coming from such a goofy little goober like himself.
It’s truly unbelievable that this tiny 45lb boy, with such a brief experience of life thus far, has demonstrated what it means to truly be a Warrior. We are amazed at how resilient he has been in this new, terrifying world of testing, hospitals, seizures, pokes, transfusions, and pain he has been thrust into. Not many adults would be able to handle any of this with the diligence that Marley has. He has taught us all the true meaning of strength. It is obvious our fierce little Aries has a fire inside of him that he refuses to let dim, and we couldn’t be more proud of him!
While many children with ALL Leukemia do go into remission fairly quickly, Marley will not be fully done with his treatments until he is at least 7 years old. That means for the next 3 years of his once normal childhood, he will be battling against this behemoth of a disease. Luckily, the doctor’s prognosis is one that is very hopeful and positive. And while there are no guarantees with cancer, this is at least of some comfort for now. Please help support Marley on his journey and fight against cancer in any way you can. We truly appreciate you taking the time to read his story and helping out our Marley Bear ❤
